Fabulous Clutch

My friend, Celia, introduced me to a new handbag designer called West/Feren. (The designer is a friend of her brother.) Since I checked out the website (www.westferen.com), I can't stop thinking about this adorable clutch. Love it, need it, have to have it!

Inspired by Nicole Richie

Today's outfit was inspired by Nicole Richie in InStyle. I love the idea of a classic white button down and jeans dressed up with fun jewelry.

Dinner and drinks at a friend's house:

-Old Navy top
-Citizens of Humanity jeans
-Random necklaces: one from BP, strand of pearls from James Avery, a locket I've had forever and another gold necklace I've had for years
-Gold bangles from BP and Old Navy
-Gold cuff bought in London

Went to Six Flags with the girls earlier today.

-Tildon tee
-Scarf from Ann Taylor Loft
-Jolt jeans
-Ugg boots

I know I'm about five years late but can I just say how comfortable my Uggs are. I never got into the trend because I don't really like the look of the traditional Uggs but they came out with these cute knit ones last year that I think are adorable. And now I see why everyone wears them, they really are so comfortable; they are totally the flip flops of the fall/winter.

Fall Colors

This pic is from The Sartorialist (a fabulous street fashion blog). I really love this color for fall. Of course, we have talked about how purple is the hot color for fall but I think this is the underdog color, the less obvious one that makes you look like you know something about fashion that everyone else doesn't. My friend gave me a cute little wrap cardigan this color and I've had to restrain myself from wearing it too much.

The Cathy Phillips Project

I just watched the first episode of The Rachel Zoe Project and my heart is still beating a little bit faster with excitement for what she does. If you are at all interested in styling or are just ridiculously passionate about fashion, I would recommend the show. She's like a real life Carrie Bradshaw, going over the top with enthusiasm for fashion. And, while I would never want to become as overextended as she seems to be, it really inspires me to see what she has done and where she is going.

Black Out

One of my favorite things about fall is wearing all black. It is so easy and chic.

-BP cardy
-Rubbish top
-Silver cuff and bangles
-Vivienne Tam pants
-Random belt
-Anne Klein New York shoes

My clients always ask me when they should wear gold versus silver jewelry. As a general rule, you should wear gold with warm colors (yellows, reds, oranges and browns) and silver with cool colors (blues, greens, purples and black). Hence, the silver jewelry with the all black outfit.

-BCBG cardy and dress

Trend: Multi-handled Bags

This is the new fall bag I just purchased by Elliott Lucca. I adore the color. The dark gray feels so fresh for fall as an alternative to black. At first, I thought I might just remove the long handle because I will never use it, I prefer short handles. Then, it started to grow on me as an added detail to the bag and I thought it looked boring when I took it off.

Then, I saw this spread in Lucky magazine and realized it's a new trend. A little strange when you think about it, to have an extra strap hanging around, but I like it.

Yes, it is still OK to wear white even though it is after Labor Day. It is officially OK to start wearing fall stuff but it is still summer and there is a transition period where both summer and fall clothing is appropriate. There will come a time when the white bag and shoes must be put away but we are not there yet.
Part two of trends discussed at Shop and Sip last week.

Trend: Purple and Gray

Think...
A purple or gray handbag
Berry colored pants
Gray or purple as an alternative to black
Purple in shades of berries and plums
Dark grays

Trend: Overscaled Jewelry

Think...
Statement necklaces
Nothing too delicate
Piles of bangles
Big rings, earrings and watches

September 2, 2008

Here is a recap of what we talked about at the Shop and Sip party at Current Boutique last week. I just discussed a few trends for Fall 2008 that I'm excited about and that I think are easy to start incorporating now even though we're still in summer weather.

Trend: American Classic

Think:
Timeless Silhouettes
All things Ralph Lauren
Subtly upscale accessories
Cream, khaki, navy
Plaid (plaid is really big for the fall and this is a good way to incorporate it in a preppy, sophisticated way)

How to wear it now:
Pencil skirt
Pops of plaid
Silk scarf

Trend: Menswear

Think:
Vest and blazers
Wide leg pants
Tuxedo detail
Tie neck blouses
Messenger bags

How to wear it now:
Vest or blazer over a dress
Wide leg pants w/sleeveless top
Messenger bag

Stay tuned for more trends and a list of fall must-haves!!!

Meeting a friend for lunch and then meeting with a client:

-James Perse tee and skirt
-BP cardy
-Necklace, bangles and handbag from BP Nordstrom
-Gold cuff bought in London
-BP shoes

I've had a few people ask me what BP is. It is the juniors department at Nordstrom. I used to manage the department in a former professional life so I have a lot of stuff from there. It's also a great place to get inexpensive basics, accessories and sometimes trendy pieces.
