Shoe

I just came across these shoes while I was doing some online shopping for a client.  They are so adorable for only $60 at South Moon Under!  They are perfect for winter because you can wear them with tights and the straps will keep them slipping off.  The color is perfect too, so versatile.  Love it!

Bride Wars Inspiration

I loved Anne Hathaway's wardrobe in Bride Wars.  Boots, cardigans, cute dresses, very much my style.  And she donned my favorite jewel tones: sapphire, ruby, emerald and canary yellow.  I also love the gold buttons on the sleeves of the blue dress and on the cardigan.

New Handbag

My sister requested that I share my new handbag. :) It's the Marc by Marc Jacobs Med Hillier Hobo and I love it. I never buy black bags because I always think black is boring but the shape of this one, the option to wear it cross-body and the gold hardware drew me to this one. Here is a basic picture of it only mine has gold hardware and I could only find this pic of it with nickel hardware.

Wearing it cross-body:
-Sashimi coat (I bought this coat from Nordstrom for about $70 last year and always get compliments on it)
-Marc by Marc Jacobs bag, obviously
-BP sunnies
-Jolt jeans
-Steve Madden boots

Wearing it over the shoulder:
-Eight-sixty top
-HIP cardy
-Max Studio skirt
-BP tights
-Steve Madden boots

Mrs. O

Also, if you remember the sparkles on Michelle's neckline during the inaugural ceremony, here is some interesting info about it.  I know when we were watching, my sister and I were trying to figure out if it was a necklace or a pin or part of the dress.  Apparently, it was a beautiful vintage pin.

Mrs. Obama

Sorry this is a little belated but, as requested, here is my take on Michelle's ball gown.  I thought she looked beautiful.  I don't really like that the dress is white though, it's a little too bridal.  (Just as I was writing that, the maintenance guy in my apartment looked over at my screen, saw these pictures and asked if I was getting married so I'm not the only one who thinks she looked like a bride.)  I do love that she is wearing an up and coming designer (Jason Wu) and that the one shoulder dress is very modern, two qualities that are unique to a woman in politics.  I'm excited about the style that she will bring to DC and I hope that she will show women in this town that you can be stylish and modern and still be taken seriously.

Inaugural Style

No matter who you voted for, it is impossible to be in this city and not get swept up in the spirit of this historical event.  I couldn't bring myself to brave the crowds today but spent most of the weekend downtown and made it to the concert on the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday.  The experience of all the excitement and people in town is truly moving.  I hope everyone across the country was able to enjoy the experience in some way.  The Obama family looked great today.  Upon first sight of Michelle's Isabel Toledo outfit, I thought it was a little bling-y.  But, while it would not have been my choice for her if I was her stylist, it is growing on me.  Upon closer look, one can appreciate the beautiful details of the coat and dress and the unexpectedness of the gloves (apparently J. Crew).  The Obama girls looked absolutely precious in coats from Crewcuts by J. Crew.  Overall, the Obama women made a strikingly, colorful statement.  Happy Inauguration. :)

Wish List: Lace Skirt

I've been craving something lacy and this skirt by French Connection is fabulous.  You could make this look professional, wear it to a cocktail event or with a sexy top and heels on a date.  Love it.

Published

I thought I'd wait to reveal the news until I had something to show for it but I am going to be a contributing writer for a new publication called DC Fashion News.  It is a free monthly newspaper that focuses on local fashion styles and trends.  Check out the website for more about DC Fashion News and where to pick up a copy and read my first article here.  The website is still a little under construction but enjoy browsing around!

Golden Globe Style

Golden Globe style was interesting this year.  To me, there were very few "what the heck is she wearing?", everybody looked great but few really inspired me.  Regardless,  here are some of my faves.  You'll see some of the trends we've been talking about: statement necklaces and earrings, blue tones.  Also, notice the structure and cut of most of these dresses: phenomenal.  The hourglass figure is another trend we'll be seeing a lot of.  Flaunt your curves!

Outfit Inspiration: Casually Stylish

-James Perse tee
-Scarf picked up at Marshalls
-Lucky Brand jeans
-Aerosole shoes

You can be comfortable and still look cute.  You know how on What Not To Wear, Stacy and Clinton always get mad when the people getting made over say they don't want to get rid of something because it's comfortable?  Well, it's OK to be comfortable, actually it's essential to be comfortable.  But don't for one second think that comfortable and stylish are mutually exclusive.  You can have both.  I am essentially wearing jeans and a t-shirt today but because of the cute fit and unique colors, the outfit looks more stylish and interesting.  Add on a scarf, jewelry or other accessories and you have an outfit.  And I'm wearing Aerosoles (from my days in retail), you don't get more comfortable than that!

Boutiquemix.com

I just discovered a fun new online store called boutiquemix.com.  The DC based owner creates her own jewelry and accessories and sells pieces she has picked up in her extensive travels.  I wasn't super excited about the clothes, which I have trouble buying online anyway, but there are some truly unique and fabulous accessories.  I browsed through the entire website and wanted to share some of my faves with you:

Little Black Dress

Last month, I spoke about LBDs at the Little Black Dress Club party at Current Boutique.  This month, On Tap Magazine did an article about LBds, quoting yours truly.  Check it out here!
